Move-of-the-Month

Little Mermaids

Describing it makes it sound more complicated than it is. This is a simply, lovely mermaid stretch with the bonus of a triceps-working side push-up--easy-peasy!

  • Kneeling on your mat, pelvis stacked directly above knees, spine in alignment, sit back on heels
  • Inhale: raise arms overhead, shoulders down the back, interlace fingers
  • Exhale, Repeat
  • On the next inhale, lean over to the left as you land your right sit bone to the mat; right arm is curved in an arc over your head. Maybe your left elbow comes into contact with the floor.
  • Hold; Breathe in and out 2 times more.
  • On this angle, bring both hands to the mat as you exhale.
  • Inhale
  • Keeping elbows tucked alongside ribs, slowly transfer your weight into your hands, as you exhale (This looks like a slanted / oblique pilates push-up.)
  • Repeat: the side-angled pilates push-up 3 times more.
  • Come up to center
  • On the next inhale, lean over to the right as you land your left sit bone to the mat; left arm is curved in an arc over your head. Maybe your right elbow comes into contact with the floor.

  • Come back to center. Ahhh

Word-of-the-Month

UNDERHANGER

ahn - der - han - gar

LOCATION: back of upper arms

ISSUE: this loose triceps flesh wiggles when you don't want it to; wrong kinda arm candy

SYNONYMS: wings, loosie-goosie limbs, dangling triceps

Scene: The Pits and the Pendulums: A Cautionary Tale

The BuddhaBabes attended Jess and Jack's wedding reception, which turned into a cautionary tale when all the women-of-a-certain age started flappin' and flaylin' to the golden oldies. Armpits were exposed and underhangers were flippin' and floppin' like pendulums every which way... The BuddhaBabes turned themselves into little mermaids, working their triceps the very next day.
